It takes a lot to turn a modern house into a modern home – much more than meets the eye.

There’s an entire world at work to ensure you have the power and heating you need as the everyday appliances that make life a little easier.

From fridges and microwaves to airconditioning and TVs, most of the appliances that enable our modern lifestyle all have one thing in common: They’re made from plastics.

Yet, not all plastics are created equal

These appliances’ materials are very different from your normal plastic water bottles or packaging. Many of these products found in your home are made from hard-wearing, long-life plastics that are designed to work for years in different conditions.

And many major manufacturers, such as ExxonMobil, are taking steps to address plastic waste by increasing plastic recyclability while creating tougher materials that can last longer in a more sustainable way.

Global sustainability organisations such as the Alliance to End Plastic Waste, of which ExxonMobil is a founding member, are also working to end single-use plastic waste and increase the material’s ability to be reused.

They are also providing cleaner fuels for heating and cooking, helping people breathe easier and playing a part in bluer skies.

Read below to discover only a few of the ways these plastics and energy sources are helping to improve your home life every day.
